Kawasaki Motor Corp Networking I have a strong attachment to the motocross industry. Many of my neighbors on the street I grew up on in Orange County work for Kawasaki Motor Corp. I thought that I could get my name out there by attending their network events and camping outings. I have had the pleasure of meeting people in the marketing department, advertising department, Human relations, mechanical, computers, and mechanics. I have also met many of the competing Kawasaki riders that race in events such as Supercross. I have been invited to attend their camp-outs which has been so much fun. Kawasaki has such a fun family-like atmosphere with a little bit of competition. One of the network events was a "poker-run". I was able to get through a course of poker card hiding spots with many Kawasaki riders. I was able to send my resume in speak to top executives. I am excited to see if I can work there upon graduation. I know that I like the people and align with their company values. They are great to their customers and make everyone feel welcome. I would love to work for Kawasaki in any of their departments! Big Brother And Big Sisters-Young Professional Committee When I was on HTM 301, we had to attend an event to network and set goals. I was able to accomplish my goal of meeting 3 people there. I collected their business cards and got to see an event put on from start to finish. The event was raising money for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, a charity for underprivileged children. They had drinks, food, and entertainment. One of the main events was an auction off of big brothers and big sisters. The person who bought them, also bought a date package for a night of stuff that the "older" enjoys. All the money raised went to the charity. There was also a band that played. The event ran smoothly from the check-in to the good-byes. I had a great time meeting young and successful professionals! Braille Institute In Delta Gamma, we were required to get site hours. I thought this was a great way to stay involved and have fun. I volunteered at the Braille institute to help with the classes that blind guests attended. Just staying connected to a great nonprofit is rewarding and teaches you life lessons. There are so many people that are happy just being able to be around people who care about just talking to them. I volunteered a couple times in the technology class where the braille students were able to make their phone talk and explain what is around them. It is amazing to learn new things around people who are so gracious and understanding. I learned how to walk with visually impaired individuals. They are not people who are helpless. They lead fruitful lives full of fun, just like us. I also participated in cooking classes with them, as well at quilting. These everyday activities were so much fun and inspired me to alway give back. I want to keep volunteering through non-profit events. Maybe someday I will run an entire event myself. My take-away from volunteering at Braille is to never take anything for granted and to be helpful and patient to those around you. Blind Children's Center Working the race through the Blind Children's Center was a great way to see what goes in to planning and executing a small portion of a sport event. I was a volunteer through Delta Gamma again. I thought I would volunteer because it was in LA and I wanted to attend and help at a sport race. We left from San Diego the night before, got 5 hours of sleep and took off for LA to be there at 5:30 am. We set up one of the snack and drink stations, and then were asked to cheer for the duration of our shift. People in the race were racing for a cure of some kind. Some people couldn't walk, some people had cancer, some couldn't see. There was multiple reasons to be racing. I saw individuals racing on bikes that they powered with their hands because they had no legs. And guess what? thousands of people thanked US for cheering for THEM. I thought that was incredibly humbling. People that were racing on the opposite side of the street would run over and cross the street to the side we were on just to high five us! I lost my voice that day and even teared up because of how happy I was. I want to be inspired everyday. Volunteering for the Blind Children s Center was one of the most amazing things I have ever done. Grand Opening at PINK Fashion Valley Working at the Grand Opening allowed me to meet the employees at PINK, engage and work with the management, and stay connected to an amazing brand. I even speak with headquarters about the store. I have met incredibly smart and nice people through PINK. I am planning on applying for an events position through PINK when I graduate. I am interested in traveling, all thinks PINK, and awesome people. PINK has it all. I have learned so many planning skills, people skills, and have gained a new-found confidence by working with people who really care. It has made me grown as a person for sure!
